Quite the contrary Peter, very interesting thread and beautiful pieces, cases & documents too: thanks for sharing!

One issue it raises for me is that from what I can see, the black version seems to have been presented with loose ribbon as most german medals were but worn "bow mounted" for women (mothers & widows I presume) which makes sens. In addition to the "bow mounted" type, I also have a drapery mounted one that looks legitimate but now, I wonder....Even if the medal could be worn by next of kin irrespective of sex I suppose (e.g. father, eldest son etc.) who, other than the wife or mother would ever have the opportunity to wear this medal as a drapery mount?

    Best regards

    JC

Great examples Peter - thank you for sharing them with us.

How does one tell an original red/orange Honor Cross case from a reproduction? I saw a repro red/orange case at a show (being sold as a repro) and it seemed to have all of the characteristics of an original, including no-glow under UV light...

Many thanks for Your interest, JC!

As far as I know, all these crosses were awarded with a "normal" long ribbon. Those awardees, who wanted a "special" ribbon (e.g. bow for women, trifold...) had to order or buy this ribbon on their own.

        Kind regards, Peter

          Hi Scott!

I'm sure, that's not this easy... I haven't seen the case You are talking about and therefore can't say anything of interest about it. Personnally I think it's a case of experience and of knowing items from 100% good sources. That's much more easy in Austria, I'm afraid...

          Kind regards, Peter

Thanks Peter! So the drapery mount is also possible then for this cross. Ever since we discussed the (remote) possibility of my austrian mount 01.03.38 medal a while back I am more cautious about ribbon mounting so I took the precaution of getting a "normal ribbon" version too for this medal to be sure

            Best regards

              Hindenburg Crosses

              Hi Peter,
I for one do not care for Hindenburg crosses, in the case of the examples that you have shown I will make the exception. Your crosses are great as well as the documents. The thread is also very informative. I want some cased examples now.

              Great stuff.

              Regards,
              Jody
