    Auction find

    Hi Guys,

I took a chance on these in an auction. My feeling is that they are good and from a souvenir or sample board. Does this look likely? Do they all look good?

    Thanks for for looking,

    Best regards, Guy

The silver DAF LS medal has frosted highlights but the silvering is absent from the rim. I have not seen this before - is this usual? Many thanks again, Best regards, Guy

        I agree.

They may have come from a sample board.

        Kind regards
        Pierce

I agree with Pierce. The medals are all original and it appears that they all came from a Deumer sample/display board. The Westwall and Social Welfare are for sure Deumer products and I think the others are as well. It is not unusual to see medals with incorrect ribbons on the Deumer display boards. The factory would use whatever scraps of ribbon were still on hand when the display boards were put together.

            Hello Guy,

Your RAD Medal is a perfectly fine, original medal. Seeing the lack of finish on the edges is normal for these medals. These were struck from cupal, which is primarily aluminum with a thin jacket of copper. What you see on the edges is bare aluminum and the layered effect of cupal: The silver finished copper jackets on the front and back retain their finish well while in the center layer the bare aluminum core is visible.

The medal you have there will be very light because it is mostly aluminum.

            Best regards,
            Tom

They are all good pieces. However they did not have to come from a sample board. I believe that during the occupation many medals were pinned to boards and sold to allied soldiers. I have had many medals with the pin holes in the ribbon. I beleive they were all pinned to a board at one time for sale to occupying soldiers. Congrats on the nice find.
