Original unmarked Gold Wound badges did exist but without a picture there is not a lot we say about the authenticity.

Jakeb - You mean stamped - like black wound badges ??? (hollow at the back ?? )
I believe it's a black badge - made of brass.. - I'v seen many of those - without a black paint (like ground dugs) - they look almost like gold after cleaning.. but infact they are black grade..

          hi guys
i know what you mean..... but when you take a black badge and when time rubs of f the black its a brass color its noticible when you look at both...
in the ailsby book he said that there were hollow back wbs

Original silver-gold stamped WBs exist, but several times the awards are looking gold because of their base material (brass) but often you can find a trace of the black finish, usually arround the hinge and catch, sometimes are black WBs with removed paint and repainted postwar with gold paint for obvious reasons.

You better post pics for accourate opinions.

Send the pics to my address and i'll post them for you

damn.. camera is reallu crappy hehehe

anyway.. my opinion is that this is a black WB - cleaned off from black paint - propably to fool somebody - put a back used badge like that to paint thinner - and You will get a nice gold WB

                      just my opinion...
