    A Little Rust

Hello, I purchased a Bronze CCC and it has a little rust on the pin on an the back, nothing major but I would like to keep it from spreading. I read the medal cleaning article for forum members and want to be ok with this. What I'm thinking of doing is using a little bit of gun oil and using a soft plastic brush to start with and maybe some 0000 steel wool. Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks in advance Jeff

Do not clean it with steel wool.. if anything I would use some ballistol on a rag and wipe off all I could. Then I would treat it with Renaissance wax to prevent any further spreading.

Ren wax is museum quality so no worries on using it IMO.

I would be real tempted to just leave it alone; the rust on the pin appears from it having been in contact with the catch for 70 or so years. The rust/discoloration on the little blued metal plate is, to me, just consistent with the age of the item.

Because the rust/discoloration at issue does not impact the display value of the item (you don't see it when viewed from the front) and is not a result of abuse but, rather, just the age of the piece, I would leave it alone.

          Nice looking item.

I would not treat this little rusty spot. Other thing is a zinc pest which could damage your clasp permanently, but in this case it´s imo ok.

I would agree leave it alone just run in add a little ' Renaissance wax' over the rust to stop further deterioration.
