The Batons from Kaiser Wilhelm II
Hello
A few days ago , I visited ''Huis Doorn'' where most of the stuff is from Kaiser Wilhelm II , since he fled to Holland in 1918 , he came with almost 60 train loads full of belongings , he lived there until his death in 1941.
The remains of the Kaiser are also there in a mausoleum .
The Dutch gouvernement confiscated everyting in 1945 , the house is now a museum .
For me it was the first time , to visit it , it was fantastic what they had on display , about 20% of the things from the Kaiser is shown , the rest is in storage .
Here is the website from the museum
http://www.huisdoorn.nl/eng/
The museum is going to bad times at the moment , because the subsidy will be cut by 50% , so maybe in the near future it will be closed for the public
Years ago they sold his Mercedes-Benz 770 limousine to the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart , because they needed the money to stay open , this was the car that was used for his State funeral .
Maybe I will make a separate thread about my trip with his other stuff , like uniforms , furniture etc.
Here is what I think could be of interest for this thread , his batons .
First two daily batons
This baton he received for his grandmother's Queen Victoria funeral arrangements in London
Two more daily batons
Regards , Johan
