    SS Ribbon Bar on E-stand

Thoughts on this? Perhaps I am wrong but the SS runes don't look real and the reverse attachements give off some warning bells.

The ribbon bar is an Ohio repro. Aged and typical of the style. Not original.

I am not an expert on ribbons but I can tell that very few SS (if none at all!) earned the Medaille für den Italiensch-Deutschen Feldzug in Afrika.
In fact, no Waffen SS units fought in this theatre of operation as far as I know.

Like I said in the other thread:

Its a Ohio bar with what looks like original ribbons with brass hardware.

Will someone please explain to me what an "Ohio" bar is. I'm not learning anything from "..gives off warning bells." Can you be more specific with some detail so that I might better understand. Thanx

Tom explains it very well in this thread :
            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=665786

It's the type of ribbon bar that has been dubbed an "Ohio fraud parts bar" because most of these monstrosities originated in Cincinnati, Ohio. There was a dealer from this southern-Ohio area that assembled these bars and sold them as reproductions. He would also, on request, build bars for Himmler, Ribbentrop, Rommel, or any other TR personality. However, some people started to sell these as original and they have plagued our hobby for many years now. These fakes are characterized by ridiculous award combinations, over-abundant use of ribbon devices, a very crude-looking snipped brass catch, and wool felt backings stitched in place with thick thread. The mounting plates on these fakes are almost always brass, too, and in many cases the holes for the ribbon devices are drilled haphazardly which, in turn, will throw off the alignment of the devices on the finished product. Very seldom should you ever find a brass mounting plate on a Third Reich Period ribbon bar. The ribbons and devices on these fake bars can be original surplus stock, fakes, or a mixture of original and fake parts.

Yes, it certainly is an "Ohio" fake. Photos for posterity.

Looks like the crude, cast Runic device has been stuck on there quite recently.
                Here's an original...for comparison...

That's good that you have asked for it to be removed but it is not the object of members here to humiliate you Tom. I am sorry you feel this way. There seems to be two threads going here on this ribbon bar which is maybe unnecessary and maybe this is what you mean?

                      Kind regards
                      Pierce

And btw, if it was real 200 dollar would be the same as giving it away for free.

I was the one who started the thread but I also sent Tom a PM so that he knew that I had started a topic on the ribbon bar.

Humiliation was never my intention. I was being honest, and classed the ribbon bar for what it is regarded as (I.e. Ohio) within the collecting community.

There is a article on ribbon bars, which the link has been posted, I believe this article gives some "acedemic" background information on the subject of ribbon bars and ribbon bar collecting.

There is a unique "cult" of ribbon bar collectors / enthusiasts / addicts, were all on here and can offer any would be buyers advice on any purchases which you think could be a suspect item. Were just here to help and offer advice and share collections :-)
