    Gun Show Pickings

    Hello to all,

I found a cased 40-Year Faithful Service Decoration while at a gun show yesterday. Also picked up silver and black Wound Badges with their matching packets, as well as a U.S. Army Air Corps Aerial Gunner Wings. The Wound Badges are shown in thread linked below, starting at post #14:

The wings are pictured in the thread linked below, in posts #11 & 12:

    Best regards,
    Tom

The case has seen better days, but the medal is still pretty minty.

I have only ever seen these 40-year cases marked to Deschler & Sohn of Munich.

          Nice Score

Great Scoop at the Gunshow. Congrats Tom, the 40 yr LSCross has a deeper blue hue then the ones I have. Must have been under wraps in its case for the past 70 plus years. Black Wound badge looks Minty too.

I agree, looks like that 40 case really did its job! The inside of the case and medal are spotless.

You can tell it has not been opened over and over as it still has the bridging material at 100%. This usually is the first thing to go on these cases b/c of constant opening past 90 degrees over the years! Nice finds

Yes indeed! Carl Wild it is.

                      Hi Tom,

That black wound badge is very smooth looking! All the pieces are great! Always nice to have the case for the 40, 25 and Annex medals!

                      Thank you, Scott

                        Hi Scott,

Yes, indeed! These Carl Wild Black Wound Badges are known for this kind of finish. The paint is so thickly applied that it obscures all the detail and makes it look plasticky.

                        Best regards,
                        Tom

Any maker on the other wound badge/packet?

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                              Hi Tom,

                              Thanks for the comments.

The silver is just the typical late war zincer by the Vienna Central Mint.

                              Best regards,
