    8-Place Bar

    Help!

I'm pretty sure this is a put together or all together reproduction. But I'm not 100% sure on which so I come to 'the experts' on these bars.

I figure the ribbion is bar. From what I've seen the 15 year should have 2 white lines instead of one thick, and the 25 should have 3 gold lines within one thick white line. The NSDAP devices look convincing.

Overall thoughts other than "crap" (trying to get educated here!)

I now see it is the exact construction of this one: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=665760 that has been asked about very recently.

Someones little hands have been busy!

        Hi Josh,

Just as you suspected, this bar is absolute crap. It's the type of ribbon bar that has been dubbed an "Ohio fraud parts bar" because most of these monstrosities originated in Cincinnati, Ohio. There was a dealer from this southern-Ohio area that assembled these bars and sold them as reproductions. He would also, on request, build bars for Himmler, Ribbentrop, Rommel, or any other TR personality. However, some people started to sell these as original and they have plagued our hobby for many years now. These fakes are characterized by ridiculous award combinations, over-abundant use of ribbon devices, a very crude-looking snipped brass catch, and wool felt backings stitched in place with thick thread. The mounting plates on these fakes are almost always brass, too, and in many cases the holes for the ribbon devices are drilled haphazardly which, in turn, will throw off the alignment of the devices on the finished product. Very seldom should you ever find a brass mounting plate on a Third Reich Period ribbon bar. The ribbons and devices on these fake bars can be original surplus stock, fakes, or a mixture of original and fake parts.

The actual bar you posted has been on the Summer Vacation Militaria website for at least three or more years now. It was actually purchased a few years ago and subsequently returned. It has been back up on the site since then with a lower asking price.

Here is a thread where that bar was discussed previously. (See post #22 on page #2 and posts 33 and 38 on page #3.)

You can find a whole bunch of these fakes if you do a search using "Ohio fraud bar."

        Best regards,

I can only agree with the guys, this bar is a fake, first red flag for me is the SS long service medal.

          - THE SS TK RING
          - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
