Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).
Hello,
I agree with the others. A known fake that has been around for a long time. At least 25 years that I am aware of. Pin, hinge, and catch are all wrong. 'L/14' marking in relief on badge center is not proper either. Marking should be stamped and below catch. This example looks to have a more carefully done attachment of the hinge and catch. Usually these fakes display scorching around the hinge and catch from excessive and concentrated heating as the hardware was applied.
Best regards! Tom
Ouch! I was burned on one of these a good six years ago. I belive the badge is now attributed to Floch as the hing/catch and pin match thoes on his EK1 fakes. Many, many collectors have been taken by this badge. You can still find them on some dealer sites
And in some reference books- Ailsby's WW2 German Medals being one.
Yes! And there is the same fake, but with the L/63 marking, pictured on page 262 of The Iron Time by Previtera. I like the engraving on that fake to an SS Sturmbannführer. Looks like it was done at the local Things Remembered.
At the last JAG Show, two weekends ago, I saw a nice document and medal grouping. It consisted of the documents for the EKII, Czech Occupation Medal, Russian Front Medal, and the Black, Silver, and Gold Wound Badges. The grouping was very reasonably priced, and I would have purchased it if everything was real. All six of the documents were original, as were five of the medals. When I checked the Gold Wound Badge, it was one of these infamous 'L/14" fakes. No sale!
