    Sudetenland - 1.Okober 1938 Award: Detail

Looking for some help with reference to a bit of detail on the award shown, please. I am referring to the vertical bar which is present in the 6 o'clock position on the outside rim of this medal. I know that I have at some point seen other awards like this...possibly even here on the WAF or perhaps on another forum...but am no longer able to locate that.

Can those more intimately familiar with the "Flower Wars" awards please tell me if this is an acceptable mark on a genuine, period award? I feel that all other details are consistent with period originals, but would like some confirmation - or otherwise - please.

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    John

Very interesting! I've no doubt that the medal is original, but I have never seen a raised line like that before. (Maybe I've just never looked close enough.) You would almost think it is some kind of locator mark for proper placement of the suspension eyelet, but if that were the case, it would be at the 12 o'clock position and not the 6 o'clock.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom

I am grateful to all who have so promptly responded with comments on this interesting bit of detail. It is a relief know that this example is indeed a period original....and perhaps a good reference thread for others with such a medal.

                    Thanks,

                    John

                      Great Sudetenland medal!

I am wondering if the ribbon has a pin at the top or not? Maybe do you have a photo of the whole medal with case? Any maker on case? I am looking for a match similar to one I have acquired with a long ribbon and no pin.

                      Best to All!

I just checked mine, and couldn't find that mark on any. Funny thing though - when I saw it, it looked familiar and I totally thought I was going to find it on at least one of mine.

Skyhawk - my medal sounds like yours - no attachment pin on a long ribbon (about 7-1/2 inches). There is no maker named on the case. Here is a picture of the entire set-up.

                            Hi John,

Seperated at birth? Attached is a photo of my similar Sudetenland. I checked and mine does have a smooth surface at the edge 6 o'clock position. Thank for the photo!
