Although Gebrüder Godet & Co. can be considered the premier assembler of medal bars, they were not known for real pretty rosettes: They are actually pretty sloppy and angular at best.
The point is, though, that when medal bars are furled in a simple, overlapping double wrap, they will almost always have some form of "rosettes".
Some original bars will not have rosettes. Take notice of the Bavarian/Southern German style of ribbon wrapping below. It is normal for this type of bar to lack rosettes.
The second example shows a traditional German wrap and these will almost always have rosettes.
