Interesting Mounts for these Heer Long Service Medals.

Ribbon Eagles are different from the norm.

Probably not that hard to find but different.

Hi Wayne

Can't say I can recall seeing this type of eagle before nor this particular medal bar hardware. Nickel plated?

Are these eagle devices stamped hollow back pieces?

Devices look to be solid but hard to tell for sure because they are tight to the mount.

Mount looks nickel plated.

Everything is magnetic.

Here is mine with that style mount. Unfortunately I see no traces of it ever having an eagle device though...

No, you're not. If this was a design-protected medal bar, I would expect to see more of them out there. The sloppy work on the edges could easily result in cutting ones fingers.

The edges of these mounts are rounded.

Would be pretty tough to cut your finger on these.

As far as expecting to see more of these out there I can think of other examples of things that were not liked because of this.

What comes to mind is a Memel that was said to be a fake because there wasn't more seen.

The Memel was by Petz & Lorenz.

Thanks to Antony it is now proven to be period made.

Who knows when the mounts were done or why they were done in this fashion.

Everything checks out. Medals, Ribbons and Eagles as I have other examples of this type of eagle in my collection.

Ok Wayne, I can only view the image and my reservations were about the left bar. The edges appear to have been cut off with a clipper, thus leaving excess material on the upper left and bottom right corner.

I can buy your argumentation with the Memel as an example. However the P&L pieces can be found in great numbers, this is the first one for me (apparently for others as well). The Ges.Gesch. would indicate that this specific construction is unique and I find it odd that no others have yet surfaced. Perhaps the future will tell.

I now see what you mean about being cut.

The backing plate is one piece with the edges top and bottom being rolled
over the ribbons and then crimped.
