Italian Bravery Medal Identification

I just acquired this preliminary award document for the Italienische Broncene Tapferkeitsmedaille (Italian Bravery Medal in Bronze), which was awarded on 26 August 1942 to Leutnant Helmut Kiel, who served with Aufklärungs-Abteilung 580 (Reconnaissance Battalion 580) in North Africa. The document was signed by Oberst Theodor Graf von Sponeck, the Divisionskommandeur (Divisional Commander) of the 90. leichte Afrika Division (90th Light Africa Division), who was captured in Tunisia in May 1943.

I am unfamiliar with this award and have never seen an example of the award document for it. I would greatly appreciate it if any WAF members could post photos of this award. Also, I am interested in knowing the realistic value for this medal since I would like to acquire an example.

Hello Barry,

the italian bravery medal are engraved at the soldier with the
name/action location/date exist two type of this medal the official
government type and the private purchase, the price depend
if is engraved during the ww2 or not engraved (normally for the
foreign soldiers is not engraved) exist an real price difference about
the private model and the government model.

It's the first time I see a preliminary doc for this medal awarded to a german soldier, and I like it!

There exists more Italian awards documents like this.This have all the same style, date and are all for members for the 90th light divsion.
I have also a bronce award document like this of a soldier of the 190th Panzer Jäger and know the existence of one for the silver medal an two for the valore crosses.

I wrote a letter to the city of Paderborn back in 1987 for the collector who owned the Kiel grouping, which comprised his Soldbuch, award documents, photos, and most of his awards. Note that Kiel was killed on 12 April 1945 in Halver, Germany.

This soldier received a lot of awards, including the "Italienische Tapferkeitsmed. in Bronze", indeed a very nice group Barry!
Sad he was killed only one month before the end of the war...
