Gents,

I am bumping this Landessportsbund (LSA) badge to ask a question.

Does anyone recognize the maker of this particular badge? It seems to have a closed hinge and a squared pin and catch. The method of attachment of the hinge at the top of the badge is also distinctive.

The pin on this LSA badge is very distinctive in that it is squared and tapered. Here is a similar pin and catch on a wartime Wernstein - Jena marked DRL sports badge. It seems that Wernstein used various pins and catches but this is the closest match I have found. Did H. Wernstein make badges after WWII?

Hi,

it is very difficult, to say anything about the maker.

Wernstein had been in the Soviet Zone post May 1945; no production of TR or FRG badges.

Pin and catch are used by several makers, in war time (Hensler + Wagner) and post war (St&L + ???).

The maker could be B. H. Mayer in Pforzheim.

In the picture you can see a LSA badge like yours and a DSA badge made by St&L, with the same pin and catch:



The LSA sports badge had been awarded in Baden and Württemberg, and B.H. Mayer was/is located in Pforzheim, at that time in Württemberg-Baden.

Thanks for the response and I can see the photo OK. The S.T.&L. marked DSA badge pin does look identical to the LSA you show next to it. All three badges also have the same crimp mark on the pin near the hinge that is seen on the first one pictured. The ripples near the catch on the back of both LSA badges seem to be die flaws that are identical. And, there are similar, but not identical, ripples on the back of the DSA badge.

I had discounted Steinhauer & Luck because of their earlier and later pins but your observations make sense to me.
