Hello,

It looks to be an original badge, supposedly made by (Hauptmünzamt München) the Bavarian Central Mint in Munich. This is a maker that you don't see too often. However, it is still only speculation as this particular maker mark has not been confirmed. It could be an 'HM' within a triangle, but many (and I concur) think the 'H' is really a 'K'. Therefore, the logo could actually be a 'KM' or even 'MK'. In my opinion, the marking is more likely a stylized rendition of 'MK' and could signify, Metall und Kunststoff, a conglomerate of manufacturers from the Gablonz area. The construction of this type of badge, utilizing a crimped ball-hinge and crimped catch, looks very typical of the badges that were manufactured in Gablonz.

I can only agree, a fine original by a still unknown maker.

Tom makes some great points about the maker mark likely being MK, and that the maker likely resided in Gablonz. The assumption of Hauptmünzamt München has been passed down for decades with no real basis for it other than the letters might match.
