Here's a beady eyed bird for comments gentlemen.

Came with the Luftwaffe eagle on the ribbon.

Weight 14g.

Colour in hand is a bright brass. Just like the lamp behind it.

Not what you would expect as far as colour goes.

First one I have had of this type.

It doesn't look like it has been cleaned but you never know.

I think there is a thread from another member about this type but I
cannot find it.

Yes it is.

Here is a comparison with another 12 yr.

The medal in this thread is non magnetic as is the ribbon eagle.

One thing of note is that the ribbon eagle is hollow.

The medal has no casting marks.

There are a number of scratches that may appear as such but they are not.

The jump ring and ribbon ring are similar to other no magnetic crosses that I have.

Both 18 and 25yr crosses.

The rim looks very thin on the front side.
Also there is a strange blob over the W at 2 o´clock. Is that a damage from a hit or from the makingprocess?

The mark is a contact mark or edge knock from something else.

I have others in my collection with thin rims. Depends on the maker.

Is the medal in question actually "thicker" than the comparision you show? I have often heard that Post War Souval are slightly thicker? Perhaps this is one??? Thank you, Scott

I do not have a gauge to measure thickness.

However when you put them one on top of the other the medal in question does appear to be slightly thicker.

There is a weight difference also. The medal in this thread is 14g.

Weight of a known original 12yr is 11g.

Could be that it is a post war copy.

It is just my humble opinion this could be a post war Souval. Looks closely at the ring and see if there are any maker marks. Your situation reminds me of one I was in this July. I have a 8 year police medal that looks like good quality like yours, but is slightly thicker, and the number is different than what is most commonly accepted. Sound familiar? I did some research and I did read on a few threads/ websites that post war Souvals are generally slightly thicker....

No maker marks anywhere.

I'm leaning towards it being a copy. Post war? I do not know for sure yet.

More research required.
