I am sorry, but I think you have purchased a remade bar made in Austria.
The LS medal looks like new strike and the precedence is wrong. The ribbons are brand new and the catch pin/mounting bracket looks suspisciously like a Hungarian style . Also, the eagle on the LS is not there. Lastly, the "story" of the bar is unlikely....possible, but somewhat unlikely: (18 year old hospital intern/ office clerk/signals/ typist etc. who served 1915-18 in the homeland gets recalled into the Wehrmacht in 1938/39).

The medals are all real and the combination is correct for pre-1938.

I had said to Nick that I wasn't sure if the set up was genuine or not so I sold it for the sum of the parts.

          Kind regards
          Pierce

            Yes- pre MARCH 1938.
So, a rhetorical question- when did the LS awards get handed out- to REGULAR soldiers in the Wehrmacht?
One is talking about a VERY limited (indeed VERY limited) timeframe here and its an Austrian mount-not a Saxon.
The HK was only had a very limited application timeframe for Austrians (@15 months as I recall).
This bar purportedly is to a noncom German, who gets a regular 4 year LS medal, then a noncom Austrian war commemorative and mounts them pre-Anschluss precedence on an Austrian mount...so a 39-42 year old German living in Austria who gets recalled into the Wehrmacht in 1938 and then subsequently never remounts his medal bar?

How common was that? ......and then why are there no other medals?

Are you CERTAIN that the LS medal is original, because I am really not.

I think its a put together.

Odd things happened- but this is way too odd IMHO. Have a look at my (now ancient) thread on mistakes in wear or the REALLY old "Fakes and frauds" (which is @ 12 years old now?).

              Hi !

Trifold for WH-long service medal = 99,9% post 1945. That doesn't mean that it's a put-together, it is possible, that this comes from an (Austrian) veteran who was a member of a veterans organisation. In this case the eagle on the ribbon is often missing.

              Kind regards,

              Peter

I think this was misunderstanding. I didn't have a problem with the medal, only with the bar itself, being put together pre-1945.

                  Kind regards, Peter

Fair enough. If you are happy.

I was wrong about the dates though. I had the notion that the LS awards were created in Spring 1936, but not actually handed out until very late 1937, or early 1938.
While they were legally created in Spring, 1936 and implemented later in that Summer. I have a Funker magazine that announces mass awards as of September, 1936, so the chronology "fits" 9a little better).
