Unknown award shown in group shot??

This photo is taken from Estand. Please note the medal almost ALL of the men from different branches wear on their right breast (i.e. viewers left). This photo is part of a series of three taken at the same place and all show this medal in wear. Obviously this photo shoot has got to do something with that, no question about it. Hence my question, what kind of a award/medal is it?

The photo was taken in Salzburg (mountainous area), so perhaps it is some kind of climbing or walking medal?

    Thank you.

    Are there any close-ups available?

You can find some -slightly better ones- in this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=607281

Thank you for posting these Ron!
Although I think the one in the photo is slightly different, It could very well be something similar. The size is about the same and obviously many variations must have existed.

Are you familiar with how these are worn, i.e. indeed on the right breast?

As all soldiers (from diff. branches) wear one, it could not be a unit-badge.

IMO its either some kind of souvenir-pin from the castle they visited, or a WHW-donation badge.

I tend to agree, but please note that none of the civilians carry any and that a lot of GJ are indeed present. It still could be something related to a GJ-unit (either as organizer of an event etc)? Just speculation of course, still hoping for someone with the exact medal or outcome to show up.

Of course I noticed that no civilian is wearing one...
And also some GJ are present, they would not give out their inoffical medals to any other soldier. Apart from that, those GJ-medals were not worn like here. And those in the fotos look cut-out, and have no ring on top.

Yes Sir, I know these are not the same, like mentioned before, and also your observations are correct, but I prefere to know what they are, not what they aren't..
