I've never been able to get fired up about the 57 stuff either. They always just look like something is missing...which of course it is. Then there is the quality issue. I do have 57 reissue pieces in some of my medal groupings...items worn or displayed by the recipient after the war. I think these are great and really add to the groups...

I agree Robin but just like Andy I also have some 1957 in my collection. This because I wanted to complete a set and as the original are too rare or too expensive these 1957 will do the trick (for time being).

Here are some of my LW badges with 2 1957 badges as I refuse to buy copies of these badges.

Hi Robin,

Below are a pair of Deumer EKII's.

Sometimes the 1957 version can be as good as the 1939 version especially if made of some of the same parts.

Hello to all,
I think that the 1957 Luftwaffe Badges still look pretty nice because they retained the eagles and just eliminated the Hakenkreuz. But the Heer and Kriegsmarine Badges look terrible without the eagles. No artistic balance with the removal of the eagles.

Sometimes 57 medal bars are not bad either... but I must agree with you: quality and design really sucks!!! Early stuff however can be extremely interesting.

I agree with Robin that some 1957 issues are not appealing at all. On the other hand, some, especially the early issues, are a beauty to own and handle, at a fraction of the price. In my opinion, it is a good start to get the feel and slowly slowly one upgrades his collection. Take these 2 examples from my collection.

I Agree that the later issues are C**P but the earlier issues are gorgeous , i have an early army para , infantry assault badge and Knights cross and these are as good as wartime issues . I now only collect 1957 issues now !
