        Treffen badge

        Merdock,
Are you sure about this one? The overall details are odd, as is the pin.

          Hi,

No i can not be 100% sure as it's from a old collection[he is a vet ] but as he collected over the years but not for a long time,i thought it looked ok but as iv'e never really taken any interest in them i could be wrong,
Robin /Erich can you be more spercific as to why you do not like it the scans are not too good will take some photo's to see if they are better.
          Thanks Merdock

Hello Merdock--IMO the eagle is formed differently than those on the originals, the lettering, ribbon, and oakleaves look indistinct and sloppy compared to a sharp diestruck original, and I've never seen that style of pin on a Treffen badge.

              Merdock.
The pin's a typical fake type - they used to have hundreds of badges like this in boxes in the Curiosity Shop (HQ84) in Gloucester many years ago - all (or at least many) with exactly this type of pin. Also - original SA Treffen badges were in nickel (early) or aluminium (later).

This is one of my favourite political badges - - - I have four different "varieties" including the two Robin mentions and none look like the one posted.

Robin - - - I remember that shop without any fondness and I have saved a couple of of their illustrated lists - - - you could buy anything your heart desired !!! Do you remember Barry Smith ? His lists were also a real treat too.

                  Yes.
I remember visiting the Curiosity Shop in 1988 and being shown round the back where the chap had hundreds (literally) of shoeboxes, each filled with different types of copies - a box of fake EK1s, a box of fake GABs, etc. etc. They were made in much the same way as this Treffen badge - and most of them had this distinctive pin fitting. He also had some very good copies for the time - Souval war badges, RKs and so on. Also a range of very well made fake cufftitles.

Small world, HQ84 is where I bought my very first EK2 which thankfully was an original one although I probably did get ripped off slightly as the frame had been resoldered.
Thankfully that place closed down last year, it had become a real eyesore. The actual building itself was really quite nice with lots of Victorian tiles and moldings, I drove past it last week and it is being entirely refurbished inside and out. Look forward to seeing it when its complete.
