    mini ribbon bar with Runes

Need some opinions on this mini bar,
Looks like the runes might have been glued on.
Question being do the runes look original, could they
have just fallen off and someone reattached or just
    "put together"

    thanks

Hmm looks lit a botched 'aging' job. Though it does not look like your typical put together bar

Everything that came with this, which included military smalls from many countries was in not so good shape...
      Like it was poorly stored

If you have it with a bunch of other 'damaged' stuff then it squashing the 'aging' theory.

Pity about that because the ribbons and backing plate look period. Can't say much about the ss rune though as I have only see a few 'real' ones

Do you need any other photos, or angles of the runes
I can try later this evening if more photos would help?

            Thank you

Looks like a monkey metal runic device. They don't look like the nice crisp cut/stamped brass ones, which were then silver plated.

If the backing cloth is loose, the prongs are most likely thick brass wire = fake. I had one of these in my collection, but the runes were somewhat sharper than your example... see example of the fake.

                Hi Alan
Cloth is pretty tight, I can't see behind it

you may be able to feel them, they will be circular shaped prongs not flat ones.

The Runes are one-look common fakes.
P.S. I dread to think what that white stuff is

Definitely looks like a quick aging process to me IMO...that alone would the rest suspect. The ribbons and bar minus the runes may well be original.

                      Cheers,

                      Glen

                        Hello gentlemen,

The runes might well be fake, but I'm not positive that the assembly
was "artifically" aged. There is a lot of oxidation, corrosion behind the
cloth also. I do think there is glue of some sort around the runes. Here's
a pic of some of the other items that look like they have the same "ageing"
And a pic of the side of the ribbon bar, Whitish powdery, almost like zinc pest.
                        thanks

                          Hello Mike,

In some respects, this ribbon bar looks pretty good, construction-wise. The pin, catch, backing cloth, and even the ribbons look acceptable. However, the whites of the EK2 and KVK2 ribbons look almost too bright, IMO, for an original ribbon bar in this kind of condition. The SS Sigrunes device looks very crude and stands no chance of being original, IMO. Also, the way-off-center placement of the device would not be seen on an original ribbon bar. At best, this is an original bar that has been "doctored up" with the application of a phoney SS device.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom

                            Thanks Tom,

I think you're spot on with your analysis

                            thanks again
