Hi chris and Laurence,

if you put ss 8 year in the search engine,you will find many threads on this medal.Some of the finer points are discussed in those.

But to start with,

Stipling is wrong.Too coarse.Originals had a fine random finger print style.
Wreath is wrong.Wreath binder is way too defined.Oakleaves are wrong shape.
Colour is wrong.I dont even feel these repros are made from tombak.Some other brass alloy but certainly not original tombak.
Jump ring is wrong.Originals have a characteristic bevilled looking ring.


There are countless other points but also these were sold in the uk in the early seventies as reproductions.They arent some new hot off the press latvian special.

These copies were sold as fakes in the 70s by a firm in Kingston-upon-Thames.
