    Ribbon Bars Reunited

    Here are two ribbon bars that I managed to reunite earlier this year.

    I purchased the 10-place from a forum member back in March 2010. Earlier this year I happened to come across the 5-place on a dealer’s site. I immediately realised it was the earlier ribbon bar of the same officer and had to bring the two back together.
    The 5-place ribbon bar is pre-War circa 1936-1938. The 10-place is the War-time ribbon bar.

    5-Place Ribbon Bar

    -Preußen Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914
    -Württemberg Friedrichs-Orden Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern
    -Sachsen-Meiningen Kreuz für Verdienst im Kriege am Band für Kämpfer
    -Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges für Frontkämpfer
    -Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille

    10-Place Ribbon Bar

    -Preußen Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1914
    -Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse ohne Schwertern
    -Württemberg Friedrichs-Orden Ritterkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern
    -Sachsen-Meiningen Kreuz für Verdienst im Kriege am Band für Kämpfer
    -Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges für Frontkämpfer
    -Treudienst-Ehrenzeichen für 25 Jahre
    -Ehrenzeichen für Deutsche Volkspflege
    -Deutsche Olympia-Erinnerungsmedaille
    -Ungarn Kriegserinnerungsmedaille mit Schwertern
    -Bulgarische Kriegserinnerungsmedaille mit Schwertern

    A point of interest, looking at the 5-place ribbon bar;

    Note the ornate swords device on the Sachsen-Meiningen Kreuz ribbon. Swords are not necessary on this ribbon and were probably added to make the ribbon bar more symmetrical looking.

    The Sachsen-Meiningen ribbon on the 10-place ribbon bar correctly has no swords device.

            Here is a similar success story with a pair from my collection:

            Purchased about a year apart, by two seperate dealers. The age and colours match perfectly.

            Belonged to a high ranker in the SS Polizei.

                  What a great homage you provided like some kind of sacred duty to the principle of it. Mysteriously, this even brushes off some form of self satisfaction on me. Interesting to see the forensic career progression trail.

                        Here is another reunited set:

                        This set is very interesting. Both ribbon bars are manufactured for the same person, this is obvious as all the ribbons match. BUT, one ribbon bar is a solid metal bracket type and the other is a fabric buckram style ribbon bar.

                        Both bars are manufactured before 1934.

                        There is a crown device missing from each bar. One crown would have been sewn onto the Bulgarian bravery medal on the buckram bar, which has fallen, but evidence of the crown and stitching is still present, the stitching to the crown can still be seen on the Hohenzollern medal, it is not a hole in the crown.

                        There is no crown on the Hohenzollern medal on the metal bracket bar! Which I think is due to the wide angle of the swords.

                        On the bracket manufactured bar, the crown device of the Bulgarian bravery medal is that beautiful Eastern European style crown, the swords are actually affixed to the crown, which is something i've not seen before.

                        There is only one set of swords which pairs up between the two ribbon bars and they can be seen on the Schwarzburg ehrenkreuz.

                        Both bars use a differently manufactured set of Oaks and Swords for the Zahringer Lion order. On the buckram bar, the swords tie in with all the existing sword devices, whereas on the metal bracket bar the swords are very thin and high angled to make them have less of an over lap on the adjacent swords device possibly.

                          Hi Alan,

                          These are absolutely stunning!!

                          I do not think there is a crown device missing from the HHOX ribbon on the top bar. I cannot see evidence that there was a crown there. Sometimes (though very uncommon in my experience) the HHOX was represented with just swords, which of course can create some confusion in certain circumstances.

                            No there was never any crown device on the HHOX medal on metal bracket bar, which as you have said would/could create confusion, BUT it is displayed there on the fabric backed bar

                              Sorry, from reading your initial post I thought you were saying there was a crown missing from that top ribbon bar.
                              No dispute, it definitely represents the HHOX! I have this retired Oberstleutnant's grouping with similar circumstances!
