Thats an interesting packet you have there, let me get back to you on it Zack.

I want to take a good look at it and study several examples of mine and the makers name.

It's not the first time I've seen this 'style' shall we say, I like it for the record so don't be concerned about it.....yet

I'll be back to you on it.

    Kind regards,

    Marcus

      Hi Zack,

Have you held the packet up to the light to see if there is another designation behind the 'glued' on paper designation.

Put the packet right up next to a bright bulb, it would be better if you did it at night of course.

      Kind regards,

      Marcus

(I'm still looking into this one Zack)

        Hello Zack and Marcus,

I would be willing to bet that the envelope pictured was originally for the Russian Front medal, and then converted over to an envelope for the Westwall Medal. The medal and envelope look good to me.
        Best regards! Tom

          Hi Tom and Zack,

I agree Tom about the packet, this I do believe from the pic's as a genuine legitimate packet which has been period 'adapted' for use with the West Wall medal.

I would deem this packet a little more special Zack, I think it's very nice evidence of packets intended for one award being used for another, if your not happy with it I have several different mm West Wall packets; I'll swop with you LOL (In fact I'd like a pic of yours for an article and project I'm concerned with please)

          Kind regards,

          Marcus

Thanks all! It is in fact an Ost front medal packet with the schutzwall label pasted overtop. I thought for sure that was a sign of a fake...but now that you all say it's probably period, that makes it alot more interesting to have two labels. Marcus...if the pictures don't suffice above, let me know exactly what you need and I'll snap them for you asap!

                Hello Zack,

Rest assured, that is a very nice medal and issue envelope. Nothing wrong with it at all. I agree with Marcus that the piece is actually nicer because of the converted issue envelope. I would hang on to that one if I were you. Also, there is one of these converted Westwall envelopes pictured on page 80 of Angolia's Book, Political and Civil Awards of the Third Reich. I have owned one of these converted envelopes for over 20 years. I think mine is a Friedrich Orth one as well. I will post pictures when I get a chance. It is buried in my collection somewhere.
                Best regards! Tom

                  Hello Zack and others,

Here is the one from my collection. It is also a Friedrich Orth envelope, and was converted from a Russian Front envelope. The redish color to the front of the envelope is pretty well bleached out, but the reverse is still showing much of it's original coloring.
                  Best regards! Tom

Nice piece Tyanacek! I like the age and over-all appearance of your medal...it's beautiful. I'm glad mine turned out to be all original, and with a unique envelope too! Unfortunately I don't know much about the medal. It was displayed on top of the envelope, and the dealer included both in the purchase, so I assume they belong together. Thanks for your help everybody!
