ive been offered 3 medals in a trade deal for some of my gear... he is stopping by early tomorrow morning.

are these 3 medals real / look legitimate and what exactly are they and their value?

I know the one is a Wounded badge...

    Hello Dieter,

The first item is indeed a Black Wound Badge. It looks original and is worth about $35-40.

The item in the middle is a Mother Cross in gold. It looks original but there is some enamel damage and the ribbon is missing. From the reverse, it looks horrible but I think that is probably just a bad quality picture. It also looks like someone modified the suspension with a piece of metal, possibly so it could be worn on a chain. The value in this condition is about $45.

The last item is a fake SS Long Service Cross. Looks like a very crude casting in a soft metal. It is worthless.

    Best regards,
    Tom

      thanks for the quick reply.
I cross posted this info/picture over at Warrelics.eu

Seems the Black Wound badge indeed is real from both what you have said and also was said over at the other forum.

The ring at the top of the Mothers Cross badge is unusual, but ive also seen people refit them with string, and other things to fix them onto clothing/uniforms from what ive found online at original examples.

The SS Service medal I thought was too good to be true. Is there any specific markings that would guaranteed be on an original, or certain marks to spot a fake? ill be able to have it in my hands tomorrow to look over.

So essentially $100 for the lot would be a very fair offering?

again thanks for the speedy reply and information, its GREATLY appreciated as always.

Keep that feedback coming, I look forward to hearing everything from anyone.

The SS Award is the infamous 2-piece fake ie. it has a separately applied wreath; the originals were never manufactured in this way. this example sucks even more than your photography lol.

100$ is way to much for 1 common wound badged, 1 medal in poor condition and one fishing sinker.

ok, i passed on the 12 year medal thats a fake.

I did pick up the other two. I did real well, as I came in under the value of each.

ill be taking new pics and posting them later today.

                so whatcha think?

note: the 12 year medal at the top is the one i passed on, but i decided to take pics to share anyhow, since the original pictures were pretty poor.

                  Hello Dieter,

Much nicer pictures. The Wound Badge is an original by Werner Redo of Saarlautern and the Gold Mother Cross looks nice despite the enamel damage. The SS Long Service Cross is a poor quality fake and your better pictures make that one look even worse.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom

all excellent news to hear from you again Tom.

Im glad I dodged the bullet on the SS LS Cross by listening to the sound advice of everyone here on the forum. Again its GREATLY appreciated.

Ive got everything all squirrelled away in my very small WWII collection display now haha. Ill have to share some pictures in the near future as it grows.

Thanx for the better pics Dieter. The 12 year SS Award is now revealed to be a really crude casting of the aforementioned two-piece fake and as Tom says, it now looks even worse.
For future reference, here is an original example...

                      P.S. Welcome to the Forum.
