I don't have a picture of the fellow yet, but I plan to begin researching him. The seller supplied three pages on Sauermann's military history from the Bundesarchiv. It indicates that he was KIA on July 8, 1944.

(Philippe, I still have the VW bus, but it needs repairs -- which I suddenly don't seem to be able to afford! )
