    Crusade Against Communism Medal

I need some help-opinions on this Crusade Against Communism Medal. This medal seems to be different in design than all that I have seen. I read on some earlier posts that it might actually be good (wartime?)

Thanks for any help or oninions,
    Randy

    Crusade Against Communism, additional info

Some additional information, it has a nice maker mark stamp of L/58 on the ring and weighs approx. 20 grams.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated,
    Randy

A very interesting "variant" or rather german made Romanian medal.

I have no problems with it, IMO nicer and a bit rarer than the regular ones made by "P.Grant" which you often see.

Some collectors believe that the "P.Grant" ones are the only originals.

IMO there are at least three variants that are original.

        Anti-Communism

Thank you for the comments. This medal has a very nice feel to it, solid and clean stamping. No casking marks or flaws of any type that I can find. It would be interesting to see if others have this same maker mark.

All comments are appreciated (good or bad),
        Thanks again, Randy

I was with Radny yesterday when he purchased the medal, the ribbon is also an original, I believe it is all 100% authentic.

Is it a possibility that it could be a 1957 replacement medal?

              Romanian Medal - Communism

I just tested the ribbon with a black light and there was no reaction what so ever (to the white thread or any part of the ribbon). I looked at the maker mark and the ring with a high power magnifying glass. There were no scratches or removal marks of any type.

                Romanian anti-communism award

I did some additional research and found a posting on the 57 Awards Forum of a possible 1957 version. It appears that there are some major differences between it and mine. Best regards, Randy

The outline of nose, different hairbraids on left side of neck, short legs of some lettering (A), size of wrist on backside, relationship of letter M to wrist. Even the base material appears to be different.

IMO yours is not the 57 version.

                  Yours is war time original.

The differnce is like night and day, look at details, material etc, this piece screams quality.

                    Hi,

"Is it a possibility that it could be a 1957 replacement medal?"
"IMO yours is not the 57 version"

No, there is no 1957 version! It is not a German decoration.

"...it has a nice maker mark stamp of L/58 on the ring..."

To my knowledge the maker mark L/58 is post war Souval. Can you please show the mark L/58?

                    Uwe

                      Maker Mark-Romanian medal

Here are some photographs of the Maker Mark.

A few years ago, a moderator from this website stated "L/58 is known to have been used by Souval from wartime advertisements".

Thanks for the comments and opinions, very interesting stuff!
                      Regards, Randy

The good old Souval controversy, different opinions excists, just like with the S & L stuff. Sometimes it has been very hard to prove if it is wartime or postwar.

Any way, I like the medal, nice quality, maybe it is the early post war Souval or late war time, I donĀ“t know.

But I would really like to learn more and see the evidence, maybe someone could dig really deep and unravel the Souval mystery?

Regarding the L/58 mark, did it not belong to Glaser & Sohn, Dresden at some time? Or do I have wrong info?

Kleitmnans' monograph in the early 1960s clearly stated that the "P. Grant" ones were made in Romania at the mint but that German firms and the Austrian mint also made these and they lacked the artists' name under the head.
IMHO this is a pre-1945 medal.
Souval made these-thousands of them-post war. The post war ones are coated zinc, much lighter, have a "waxy" feel and I own about 100 of them-complete with campaign bars-which I bought in a mass lot from Detlev in @ 1994 for the whomping sum of $75!
Mixed in amidst the Souval pieces (complete with receipts and tags) were several older (heavier, patinaed) P. Grant medals and several others exactly like this.
The key is weight-how much does it weigh?

                            interesting!

What would the difference in weight be for:
                            -the grant type
-the type that started this thread
                            -post war souval ones

I posted my medal in this thread years back and still am puzzled if wartime or postwar...help please!

(the right one, next to standard Rumanian type left)

                              Uwe,

It is said that Souval was the user of the L58 number during the war also..........
