4 Place Medal Bar for Evaluation

Looking for some opinions about this bar. The bar is missing the KVK 2nd class which is nothing to replace.

Ribbons do not glow under UV light and the medals seem authentic enough, though I do not know about the Schlesien Eagles enough to know for sure about this one.

The EK2 is a three piece with magnetic center, but I am willing to guess it has been repainted...nothing too unusual.

Each of the three remaining awards has some threading around their ribbon ring loops. Brass hardware all intact.

I think I have seen a bar like this a few years ago though it had the KVK so I just wanted this one checked out.

    Appreciate all answers in advance.

    Cheers,

    Glen

      Hi Glen,

      Here are my thoughts....

      This is a "frackenspange".

All medals look authentic to me.

I do have some concern over the 3 different types of ribbon furls and lack of on the last ribbon. The Iron Cross and Silesian Ealge have the same ribbon furl, the Honour Cross ribbon has a different one and then the last ribbon is done in the "Bavarian" style- no ribbon furl.

I think giving its place on the bar the missing medal may be the Kyffhäuser Veterans Medal.

      Kind regards
      Pierce

Thanks Pierce...always appreciated are your comments.

I thought for sure it was a KVK ribbon but I guess it could be a Kyffhauserbund medal...if there was a KVK what order would be in the bar? Would it come after the EK2?

You are correct about the ribbons....all slightly different. If I had to guess maybe the bar was expanded when the COH was added and maybe a different jeweler was used. Who knows.

        Again thanks.

        Glen

The last ribbon with the missing medal is the Veterans medal....which would be last on the bar.....which is correct as this is a "Reverse order" Bar (Naval & Veterans) with the EK 14 being 1st (or last on a rev. bar), the the H.C. 1914/18, Silesian Eagle, and finally the Veterans medal. Would be totally incorrect to have a KVK on that location (unless some idiot "added" it incorrectly, of course).

Medals all appear correct....but I'm not crazy about the entire set up....too many odd ball features to me....(unless it was an offer I couldn't refuse!)

          Just IMO....

            Hi Glen,

Yes the KVK2 would come directly after the EK2.

The different jeweller explation came to mind. Perhaps his medal bar was originally just the EK2 & Silesian Eagle. Then he added the Honour Cross, different guy did the ribbon mounting......but then why the totally different mounting style for the Kyffhäuser Medal? Surely even if it was mounted separately at a different time to the others the jeweller would have used a similar mounting style? Maybe not.

            Best regards
            Pierce

The last ribbon is for the KVK not a Kyffhäuserbund Medal. Other than the colors being the same on the two ribbons, there is a big difference in the proportions of the red and white stripes relative to the black center field. Shown below is a Kyffhäuserbund Medal and you can see that the red and white stripes are little more than pinstripes.

In addition, the Kyffhäuserbund Medal should not be worn after the Hindenburg Cross was instituted in 1934. Looks to me like a civilian's post-1934 bar that was upgraded after he received his KVK during WW2. Rather than placing the KVK in its proper position on the bar, the assembler just stuck it at the end of the bar.

              Best regards,
              Tom
