    Interesting Group

Here is an interesting group for a Feldwebel in Infantry Regiment 57 that I have just acquired.

The photo is obviously early in the war with just the 4 year service medal and the Sudetenland medal as well as the DRL badge. He was obviously awarded the EK2, IAB and BWB later. The group of 3 medals top right are each crudely made soft metal casts. I wonder why?

The little box bottom right contains some pieces of shrapnel and a glass eye!!

The lanyard without the badge is very worn and only has one acorn, two in photo, so I suppose the badge was moved to a new one when he got his third acorn.

I just love the well worn wallet with his regimental number with matching dog tag..

Close-up of the medals and the photo showing some of them in wear

These will go to the e-table now. Do you think I should leave it as a group?

I really like the ribbon bar made from 25mm ribbons. I would keep the group together. Does it come with providence?

      Kind regards

I say I like the glass eye and shrapnel the most, but it absorbs the greatest impact on me, truly radiates a grim reality.

Sadly no paperwork or other provenance. It came from a house clearance in germany. All the badges, medals, lanyards were pinned to a small velvet cushion with the eye shrapnel & photo in a small cardboard box. All very damp and the pins had gone rusty making the removal of the items a bit tricky. An attic find I think.
