My previous post was merely providing information regarding the informed opinions I had recieved about an IDENTICAL medal I purchased not 1 month ago. You seem to be quite passionate on this issue, so I wish you the best of luck in making a ground breaking discovery with regards to this medal. (This would mean that I passed up on a perfectly good medal so I need to know if I need to kick myself)

I do not have 30+ years of experience in Memel medals, but when members of this forum who do have that kind of experience message me both privately and publically stating that the medal is fake and has characteristics of known fakes, I take their word for it. Now if I had have recieved this meadl for free I would have had all the time in the world to analyse it and discuss it. BUt since money back guarantees do expire with medals that get 100% Forum , time is usually of the essence to return the uestionable piece.

I am eager to see what you turn up regarding this. Here is the thread my medal I passed on was in:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=memel

And by the way, the ribbon was beautiful and did not glow!

ok i am going to weigh my item that was posted. i will post result tomorrow night.as cannot get to my work scales till then. as we see alot of mixed feelings here. i do not mean to cause an argument but a level headed debate on the piece i posted. again thankyou for posts and the way we are able to not go ballistic here ( although im sure some of you want to ). if any one wants me to post the item to them so they have it to hold and then see for them selves i am willing to post for such scrutiny.

            Hello Terrence,
Looks good to me. I think that is the style reverse that everyone seems to agree on as displaying the traits of a genuine medal. My only other point is that it is most likely not the exclusive style of reverse for original Memel Medals.

              Hello Terry,
Thanks for the link to the UK repo site. I did see this however on the previous Memel Medal thread started by seigfried. That fake is not even close to a match on any of the Memel medals I posted, either on the obverse or reverse. On the other thread about the Memel Medal, George S. pictured two medals side by side, the one on the right being suspect because of the way the thread was going. George obtained this piece from Detlev, and when suspicion arose about the medal George wrote to Detlev. Detlev said that the medal was genuine, and at the same time he offered to buy it back if George no longer wanted it. Two of the Memel Medals I posted look like George's piece that was suspect in the previous thread, but then later in that same thread, confirmed to be original by Detlev. The other Memel Medal I posted is the type that everyone seems to agree on as to being genuine.
              Best regards! Tom Yanacek

                Hello Shane,
Thanks for your comments, and for the link to the thread you started. I did notice this thread of yours several days ago. As far as I'm concerned, you did the right thing. After making a purchase of a Memel Medal at the show, and obtaining a return privilege, you must of obviously had some reservations about the piece. You considered your own knowledge in this area somewhat limited so you consulted others and got their opinions. After taking everything into consideration that was available at the time, you decided to return it because you were not happy with the purchase. Who could find fault with that logic? Looking at the pictures you posted, I would certainly not automatically label that piece a reproduction. Maybe the piece was smaller in diameter than it should be and maybe it was too heavy to be an original, but the pictures do not bring these things out. Maybe you did pass up a real medal because of the reservations you had, but the bottom line is that you were not happy with the piece and therefore you did the right thing. I have passed up original pieces numerous times because I was scared off by something I read, or by someone's opinion, or by the infamous myths and absolutes in the hobby. Likewise, I have sometimes bought pieces of junk due to the same kinds of things. I guess all we can do is the best we can.

                    Hello Chris,
That weight sounds good to me. Detlev had the weight of those good quality fakes at a little over 16 grams, and the originals at just over 13 grams. In all honesty, I believe that your medal is a good one. Did you check the diameter of yours? It should be about 32 to 32.2mm in diameter. You said that your medal came in a large lot, from a good source, and that everything else in the lot of items was good. Your gut instinct tells you that it is a good piece so I would rely on that.
