What ribbons are on this bar?

    Hi all,
Can someone please help ID the ribbons on this bar? It is a close-up of a photo of General Theodor Scherer, commander of the Cholm pocket. Photo taken in March 1942. I'm interested in finding colour shots of those same ribbons. Even I can recognise the two long service ribbons. Below are the medals he won which I believe would appear on the bar:
Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse - 1. WK
    Kgl. Bayer. Prinz-Regent-Luitpold Jubiläums-Medaille
Kgl. Bayer. Militär-Verdienstorden IV. Klasse mit Schwertern
    Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer
    Wehrmacht-Dienstauszeichnung IV. bis I. Klasse
    Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen
Spange zum Eisernes Kreuz II. Klasse
    Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten

Thanks for any and all help.
    Jason

Thanks for the reply but don't you see that I have already listed his decorations in my post? To be fair, I looked at Wikipedia for you (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodor_Scherer). Nothing about his decorations.

Can anyone help me match his medals (as written in my initial post) with the ribbons shown on his bar (see pic at bottom of first post).

      Thanks!
      Jason

        Hi Jason,

From left to right those ribbons are:

        1) 1914 Iron Cross Second Class with 1939 Spange attached

        2) Bavarian Military Merit Order/Cross (swords device either missing or never put on in the first place)

        3) Hindenburg Cross with Swords (Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer)

        4) Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold Jubilee Medal

        5) Wehrmacht 25-Year Long Service Cross (first class)

        6) Wehrmacht 12-Year Long Service Medal (third class)

        7) Westwall Medal (Deutsches Schutzwall Ehrenzeichen)

        Best regards,
        Tom

The absence of the Russian Front Medal (Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten) on his ribbon bar could be because of the date of the photo. Scherer would have received the Russian Front Medal no earlier than the Summer of 1942 so if the photo was taken before that time it would explain its absence. Also, he may have never worn the Russian Front Medal ribbon on his ribbon bar but instead wore the ribbon through the second buttonhole of his tunic.

Scherer was also awarded the Knight's Cross on February 20, 1942 and the Oakleaves to the Knight's Cross on May 5, 1942. The Russian Front Medal was probably the last decoration he received other than maybe the Cholm Shield.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Another photo of Scherer with the same combination ribbon bar. No crossed swords device on his Bavarian Military Merit Order ribbon and no Russian Front Medal.
