Ostmedal, white rust?

Hello friends,

I have an Eastern front medal. My question is, is this white rust? also, what should be done? I'm not a poker and a prodder, so I leave stuff alone for the most part. I learned my lesson before on an old rifle.

Zink Pest maybe.

Zinkpest. Put a little vasoline on it for 24 hours and then wipe it off.

White rust. I at first dried the amazed places the hair dryer, and then have processed vaseline.

I got it covered in vaseline at the moment. I'll wipe it off and post photos later of the results.

By the way, do I need to treat it with anything after I take the vaseline off? or just wipe it dry and display it again.

As promised, here are some after pictures to compare to the before pictures. Looks like it worked like a charm. I slathered it in vaseline for 24 hours and then wiped it off.
