SS Long Service on a Medal Bar

These photos come from a well known online seller with a very good reputation that most have heard of. They now have an occassional live auction that happens and that is where I found this.

I am not sure of the etiquette here of listing the exact address, so anyone can PM me and I can send the link.

I wanted to show it only because I think it is quite rare to find a authentic SS long service medal on a ribbon bar.

I would be interested in hearing what others have to say about it. It is starting at a pretty penny.

    Cheers,

    Glen

Where the two blue ribbons overlap is that maybe a hole I see where a silver eagle for a 4 yr Heer service medal might have been originally attached?

Just what I was thinking....although there seems to be a similar "rip" on the EK ribbon.....

I hate to be paranoid about this.

Maybe it was put there intentionally.

Not by the seller but by whoever.

I've seen enough jiggery pokery with bars since I joined the WAF that this bar would have to come from the hands of the guy who got the award before I would buy it.

I agree with Wayne on this one. Would be interesting to see the wear pattern on the reverse of the medals to see if they are consistent with one another. I suspect this is another case of a Heer swapped out for an SS.

The medal bar and its components all look genuine (although I know very little about SS Medals).

This may be nothing to worry about but I will point it out none the less; The stitching on the reverse....I would expect to see these 3 stitches in a straight row (circled in red). There also seems to be heavier stitching at the EK ribbon.

              I've looked at the auction/auctions.

In a lot of cases the photography is not the greatest.

Very dark depending on the medals.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if something is authentic or not.

No doubt in this case the medals are all original.

The bar.......I don't really know...........could be put together.

The SS award is certainly original, but these mounted examples can be a tough call due to the ambiguity of the kornblumenblauen bande; even when there are no obvious holes from a Wehrmacht hoheitsadler, there is still the possibility that theribbon was once home to another award, such as the Treudienst, Polizei or RAD. You would really need to examine the underlying ribbon to see if there are any telltale holes.

Item has one bid at the moment.

There is an 18 percent buyers fee added to the final price.

Is the fact that the bottom of the medals are not level cause for concern?
