plaque identification help

I received this as a gift for Christmas from a co-worker. His father was a WW2 vet and he (my friend) thought I'd appreciate it....

It looks hand-made...just wondering if it has any significance or if anyone could identify it? I'd love to know more about it...it's approx 6 inches square...

Shooting Prize

What you have is a "Company level" Shooting Prize (for the 8mm Mauser obviously) awarded to someone in the 2nd Co., Infantry Regt. 23 on 16.9.36.

I had it's twin brother a few years ago (tip of rifle was broken on mine).
Certianly a nice original shooting prize plaque....not super rare or anything, but
still very collectible.

The 23rd Regt. was part of the 11th Inf. Div. based in Allenstein, Wkr. I.
