    Fake Ribbon Bar

A good friend refuses to believe this ribbon bar is a fake. To me, it appears to be the type made by a Cincinnati dealer. The backbone is made of sheet brass. The spange device is very crude.

Perhaps he will accept the collected wisdon of the forum members.

        Don't like this one.

        Hello Bob,

I'm with you on this one. Definitely looks like the work of the Cincinnati, Ohio ribbon bar maker. This one is fairly convincing and appears to use some original ribbon stock and maybe even some original devices. The order of precedence is correct too. But, in my opinion, it is a postwar assembled fake bar and I also agree that the EK2 Spange looks very bad. The long service ribbons don't look original either.

        Best regards,
        Tom

Definitely a fake. And, one of the biggest giveaways is the fact that it has three flower war ribbons; a combo that is almost unheard of.

I was going to mention the flower awards, but didn't see that Brian beat me to it.

Yes I have to agree with the others...for me it is a fake. I do not like the EK2 Spange or the clasp on the reverse.

              Kind regards

Thank you all for replying. I have printed this and will mail it to my friend. Perhaps, now he will be convinced.

                Thank you again,

Although it's a little hard to see enough detail in the pics, the edges of the long svc ribbons look to have an offset like US ribbons instead of the German serpentine edge.

all 3 flower awards on 1 bar is weird and WB with sword (haha) much more.

Agreed, a WB with swords on a single HC-ribbon is odd, but at least possible to explain, provided the HC was for Frontkämpfer. Other decorations are IMO, depending on the way they are mounted. I've an 9mm EK with swords mounted on a button with EK ribbon and KVK ribbon, also a Treue Dienst with swords on a button with EK ribbon, HC ribbon and a plain blue ribbon. As for the bar presented by Bob, I agree with you guys.

                      cheers
                      Peter
