          Indeed, the first one is one of the many "Limes" medals.

          These are unofficial awards issued by some of the contractors engaged in the construction of the West Wall (prior to the institution of the official West Wall medal).

          They are refered to as "Limes medals" as reference to the "Obergermanischrätischer Limes", a Roman wall built to protect them from the Germanic Tribes...... The word limes is latin for a border.

            Thanks Don! Your information is very helpful. These two were brought back by a local vet who let me borrow them for research. He was stationed in Weinheim after the war. Could you translate the 2nd award?
