Strange red case

Gentlemen.
Here is one strange red case.
Anyone knows what might have been inside?
Seems that some kind of a cross has made pressure marks on it, but it's definitely not for iron crosses.
Any ideas?

Next question then, if this seems to be german order case, is this case even real?

The box is for a relatively high end copy of the German Order that came on to the market at some point in the past year, year and a half. You will probably find that the padding inside the lid is a thin layer of foam rubber.

The original case for the pinback German Order does not have a recess to fit the shape of the badge. It has a red enamelled tombak release button.
