    Heer 40yr Long Service - Opinions Please

    Found this 40yr long service on a site.

    Checked some threads in the forum and it looks like a good one to me.

    Wreath is the closed type and not open.

    What do you think?

          Wayne, try a search on this forum and you'll find some discussions. Personally I don't fancy this type of oak-leaves. The cross looks good though.

            I've read the various threads and there is no real consensus as to what's good.

            Some like the open wreath, some like the closed.

            Dan Kelly has an open wreath on his site and states that it is a 57 reissue.

            In one of the threads it is stated that the open type do not appear in any of the period catalogs. Not definite proof however that the open is the right one.

            Seller wants quite a bit of money for this cross.

            If it's good as it seems to be maybe I will offer what an ordinary 25 year sells for.

            Like the threads indicate you can stick one of these wreaths on a 25 year award and presto you have a 40 year award.

                    I contacted the seller of this award and asked if the eagle, wreath and cross were magnetic.

                    The eagle and the wreath are magnetic but the cross is not.

                    Does this raise any red flags for anybody?

                      Hi Wayne,

                      For me it does not raise a red flag because some of these awards were made from tombak and not iron. This one appears to be too well made to be a fake in my opinion.
