First impression is good, with the obvious reservations that CRAPPY scans always bring up--

        1) the blue on the Luftwaffe long service ribbon looks rather light for the dark blue shade, which is probably just the scan.

        2) that amount of streaked surface soot is almost always NOT a good sign, and reminds me of the Great Axle Grease Frauds Fashion of 2002, trying to "age" something brand new by slapping on excessive surface grunge that normal wear would not produce.

        3) and this worries me the LEAST-- that is the Spanish Military Merit Order PEACETIME ribbon with swords, white-red-white rather than red-white-red. But a typical German outfitters error, using their existing labelled "SpMV" ribbon stock on hand and not realizing the error. Swords weren't proper on either of these Spanish ribbons either, but are found more often than not as period German errors based on German ribbons habits.

So I'd say but needs a good In Hand Inspection.

Well, here are my comments... Spanish ribbons had not swords, neither peacetime nor wartime.

I am sure German LC veterans added swords to encourage their decorations "wartime" character. And about PEACETIME white-red-white Military Merit Crosses, well...

          (a) They were actually awarded to LC members. See this thread, post #5:

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...military+merit

          (b) I have recently read in Spanish pre-SCW regulations that White (peacetime) Military Merit crosses could be awarded for wartime distinguished service without personal risk to the recipient. You know, staff officers and the like. Sperrle, Volkmann and Frhr. von Richthoffen received that award, 4th class (generals).

          (c) Although being peacetime awards, and according to (b), German soldiers received those awards for wartime (and safe ) service, so no doubt they added swords to their ribbons.

          Best regards

I thought I had seen that MMO ribbon with improper swords before!!! I am used to that peacetime ribbon from pre-1914 awards to German officers.

So if this German was using the proper as-awarded ribbon, he must have been some sort of ground support staff.

Or the German ribbon bar outfitter just screwed up!

Documents, documents, always I want to see matching award documents!
