So far we have a variety of different manufactured medals , as to who the companys are they can be atributed to is what i think we all would like to discover.
As i said i have noticed the differences in the tops of the s in dienst vary. Some are curved up at the end , some are pointed down, some are parallel , and some have the line between the legs , and some have none at all.
Here are some of the features of the one i posted that vary by maker: the down pointing S top...Last edited by juoneen; 08-14-2010, 01:05 AM.

question for all :
Do we have any collectors with issue bags with makers marks that can determine what the manufacturers are by these features ?
There are other differences if anybody has other ones to mention, but it seems these are the first i noticed , but as to how they relate to issues such as originality or manufacturers is a mystery to me. This is what we all would like to determine in the future.
I also agree this medal is one of the most under rated medals , but is an attractive one for sure. Some makers make the details jump out at you, and some to a lesser degree. This one i posted doesn't have as much of the wash but i like a worn medal ,and don't hold that against it. (although i might haggle the price a little as a result when possible at the buying stage)
Even leg feathers vary somewhat.Last edited by juoneen; 08-14-2010, 01:48 AM.

as do 1st row of feathers on the neck below the head
And also the eagles head shape, and beaks , as do the opening of the second h in wehrmacht .
]
And the types of 4's used. I hope we can determine makers by the features of the dies as in other awards , so we can develop a trained eye to focus in on the differences , and determine which makers made less of these than others, or which ones made the most attractive versions. I have none with the packets, so i can't add anything as to manufacturers. May thanks to all who posted theirs, and to those who will add to this thread in the future, as they score new finds in 4 yr or 12 year medals and solve some of the mysteries relating to this medals makers , oh and please post any with numbered rings if anybody has any, as like russian front medals those would be very unusual in my opinion.Last edited by juoneen; 08-14-2010, 02:06 AM.
