Luftwaffe 4 year Service medal, copy or real?

Had this offered to me. Ribbon looks fake, clasp looks ok, medal itself I'm unsure about. Eagle thankfully does not look like a cracked-out chicken, but the fields look not as sharp as they should be.

Love to get some opinions before I bite!

Pics are also here in case they don't come up: http://atlasantiques.wordpress.com/2...service-award/

    Thanks!

      .

The medal looks OK I think. Its hard to know about the ribbon, but it could be OK, I would not replace it, if I where you. Like the frosting on the medal:-)

Nice item in good condition, but of course wait for more opinions

      Best regards
      Nicolai

Medal looks ok but i have not seen many fakes of these to compare it with.

Is it magnetic? Is the eagle magnetic?

        Kind regards

I don´t know much about these service medals.

Are they suppose to be magnetic? what material are they usually? Iron,Zinc?

The majority i have encountered are magnetic but i do have at least one tombac example in my collection.

The eagle doesn't look right to me....i have seen good fakes of these from Austria.... This one has the same "aged effect" look about it!

Here are some examples of the Austrian fakers work!!

I know the pictures are small but if i make them bigger they will blurr. To me the eagle in question resembles the eagle in this post!

The medals themselves in comparison look different to me. The Austrian fakers medals have round beaks.

For me, the ribbon and the Luftwaffe eagle device are fakes. That adds suspicion to the medal as well. I would not want this example in my collection. I would wait for a better one to come along: one that is unquestionably real.

                    Best regards,

There are some of the medals in the search section. I also feel the whole thing is fake, as usually theres different details to the medal by maker. I think it looks like someone tried to check the ribbon with something hot, possibly a pin heated with a match, and it melted because its nylon. No rolled edge as on most type original ribbons. I would not chance this one, and these medals always have a wash , and this finish looks too frosted . Also i like to see the wreath on the back more raised, and also the 4 center post radi 'sed to be more parallel to the left side of the 4s top as it passes except maybe at the point , instead of straight and the gap should be looking more parallel most all the way. Due to the different makers of these i think it would be in order to someday start a thread just on the medals , and see what different variations we can log in. It doesn't seem like we have done much on it so far, and i think we all can learn something on the subject. I also dont have any that are stamped with a makers mark , so possibly some of the collectors here may have a packet alluding to the maker , so we can track them down by die style. I look forward to finding out more about this medal also if that happens in the future.
