      The last ribbon sits high above all the others as if it is hiding something beneath it. Have you had a peak? It also looks like its had something pinned on there at sometime...

      The big M what is that made out of? The under ribbon looks as if the colour has run too.

      What is the back ground of this bar and any photos in your grouping of it in wear?

      Many thanks.

      Alan.
      Hi Alan,

      I've pulled it out and examined it in detail - interesting home made construction! I basically comprises 4 pieces of EK2 ribbon, from left to right;

      1) EK2 mini ribbon
      2) EK2 mini ribbon
      3) full sized EK2 ribbon with the black edge stripes hidden under the adjacent ribbons, the top half coloured black and the bottom half of the white stripes coloured red (so the ribbon colour hasn't run as such but it explains the different tones)
      4) full sized EK2 ribbon with the black edge stripes folded under (to explain the thickness). I'd guess there was a crown device for the Croatian award at some time.

      The M device is either toned brass or copper. It looks like it originally had prongs but was subsequently sewn on.

      The backing "place" for the ribbon bar is zinc with a wood backing.

      Unfortunately no pics of the group in wear, just some docs and all the medals. It came out of Germany a few years ago, but not from the original sailor.

      Regards
      Mike

                  Mine, from a Kapitän zur See circa. 1939. Sorry for the awful image, but I will get better ones as soon as I can. Part of a grouping. Not sure what the ribbons are off hand, but I have them written down someplace. The first is an Iron Cross First Class (Jutland), I think the Hanseaten Cross, last Hind'Cross.

                  Maybe I could get some help on the identification of these ribbons.

                    Also this one from a Legion Condor pilot who later commanded a U-boat, captured at the beginning of the war though, later served in the Bundesmarine.

                              And case and an interesting card. These were all part of a large Legion Condor grouping I obtained with the help of my friends in Spain.
