SS 4 Year LS Medal on Bar

    Hi All -

This is on a medal bar. It does not have the tear drop suspension loop. Any thoughts as to originality would be appreciated.

    Dear Don,

As you know many original medal bars containing Heer and Luftwaffe LS awards have been converted to SS bars by unscrupulous individuals swapping out the Heer/Luft LS awards with an original SS LS award. To better make an assesement of this bar could you provide better pictures of the overall bar (i.e. obverse/reverse and close ups of the ribbon area of the SS LS.

The overall combination of awards and sewing details of the bar itself will assist people in making a better judgement.

    Thx.

I have serious doubts that the 4-year SS originally came on this medal bar. I also don't think the ss medal is original...

          Hi Don,

Do you have a pix of the reverse?

I do not like the look of this bar in general! Ribbons look very clean and this style of mounting is well known as work of a particular faker of medal bars. Also the Croation medal does not look good IMO. Please provide a shot of the reverse of the medal bar.

            Kind regards

Odds of being original just by looking at the front IMHO 1:300

I'd wager $10 that if I look at the back I'll see Austrian style stitching.

                  Dear Don,

I would have my reservations about this bar in general. The reason I asked for a picture of the reverse of the bar was to see the lower portion of the ribbons, which appears to be mounted in a straight and flush manner with the internal backing plate on the bar (correct me if I am wrong). Although there are original medal bars which do not have the furled/draped ribbons (lower portion of the bar which hangs behind the medals), in recent years there have been a plethora of these type of bars many of which are seen with SS LS medals and exotic foreign awards on them.

I have attached a picture of what I consider an original bar with the flat type bottom ribbons and a reverse picture of the furling I referred to in my post.

This is the work of the Austrian! The backing cloth, the way it is cut etc and the pin and catch, the use of an obscure foreign award, maybe even the use of fake medals on this bar (?)....i am certain this is his work!!

                    Sorry Don!

No worries, Pierce. It was bought as a repro bar, but I wanted to make sure before I swapped out the SS medal for a Wehremacht LS award. If you would PM me the name of "the Austrian".

pierce doe3sn't know the name of the Austrian fakemeister-but i do.

Also, the top bar that Gary B shows is one I suspect came from Jamie Cross via "the Bavarian" bar-maker who is no longer in business.
I also doubt its originality, but not the medals themselves.
