    Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten

    Hi guys,

Got this Ostmedaille, but there are some differences in comparance to another original example...

This one seems to have a painted core, while others have a 'blued' (like they use on weapons) finish.
It's also a bit thinner than other examples and a bit less detailed because of the finish...

Then there is one more thing, the 'eye' which the ring holds is quite thin and lighter in comparance to the other example.

Al these things are on photo, but it was hard to capture the finish:

    Thin example on the left...

Strange 'eye' which holds the ring?

Looks o.k. to me. There were many details different from maker to maker.
IMO the details are too crisp to be a fake Ostmedaille.
As for the finish, makers used different methods and materials for most awards and that is the fun of collecting third reich awards.
The finish could have also been applied by one of it's previous owners, who knows for sure.
IMO I'd say it's good. Let's see what others have to say though.

          Hi

I do not like this one. I think this is one of the new fakes that have been floating around. Pay attention to the silver finish on the helmet it is a dead give away. Here is a link to a few others.

The eagle and the wing detail is not the same as in the thread posted, if they were supposed to be, but I do see what you mean by the finish on the helmet.

Fake in my opinion. The reverse shows pitting to varing degrees. It is far too thin to be explained away as "they varied in thickness among different makers". This example goes far beyond that. The large thin jump ring is of the type found on most fakes of this medal. Lastly, the detail is lacking even for a worn zincer.

              Zinc stinks!

I agree with Chet on this one. That is a huge size difference that should not be there.
