Black 1st Oktober 1938 Medal

I recently purchased some items from the estate of a local collector and this piece was in the grouping.It is exactly the same size as my other Anschluss Medals but the black gunmetal finish really puzzles me,it is nonmagnetic and measures 32mm in dia.Anyone ever run across one like this before?

I've not seen one that dark that I can recall.

Is there a line or a trace of a line along the edge of the medal? It almost looks like this may be a cast copy as there is a significant lack of detail on the obverse.
