    Valuation request KM Grouping

This covers a few areas and didn't know where best to post it so I put in in here, hope that's ok.

I've been trying to get my collection catalogued over the last couple of weeks and I'm stuck on a valuation for this group. I get the impression that requests for valuations, if not actually frowned upon, are not exactly cheered around here either so, again, I beg your indulgence. I have posted bits and pieces of this group on the forums over the years and it all checks out. I bought it as an original group but I suspect that the awards may have been brought together to match the docs, why? because the wear is not consistent between the 2 flower medals and the HSF badge has a repair at the 6 o'clock position. Not damning I know but I've always been a suspicious old Hector.

Looking at Formans guide (1995 edition) and taking the lowest price I get the following for the docs:

    EK11 $100
    1st October $50
    Memel $150
    HSF $250
    Minesweeper $75
    Wound $75

    Sub total $600

Taking a pessimistic approach I estimate the awards @

    EK11 $80
    October $30
    Memel $100
    HSF $150
    Minesweeper $50
    Wound $20

    Sub total $430

    Grand Total $1030

I have not factored anything for the three uniform photos, one of which shows all awards in wear. Neither have I factored anything for the "group" aspect of these items. Again, I apologise for the crassness of asking for a valuation but I really haven't a clue how much to inflate for the group.

    I hope someone can help.

    Thanks
    David.

PS. The HSF is by R.S.&.S. the MS is Schwerin. This group is NOT for sale I only wish to put a value on my collection for insurance purposes.

At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

No one care to take a stab at it?
I'm only looking for a ball park figure.

      C'mon guys.

I would estimate $1700-1800 between collectors and a couple of hundred more from a dealer! I might be way off the reality, but its my best shot.

        Regards

I have always thought Forman's document values were really inflated...I'm not sure how badly damaged the HSF is, but your estimate may be a bit low for it. If you suspect the group isn't really a group, I wouldn't factor in anything extra for that aspect. I honestly would not pay as high as $1800 for it. I would think $1500 or less....but thats just my opinion

Formans seems high to me too, that's why I used a 9 year old edition and took the lower values. Regardless of the awards the docs and photos are certainly a group. So we can say $1500 value $1800 for insurance perhaps?

              Thanks for the input Andy
