    Gentlemen,

These are the only pictures available. What do you think?

    Thanks,

      My 2 cents....

Not an expert but for what it's worth I'll tell you what I think. First I heard that
the ring that attaches the ribbon to the medal is supposed to be soldered
together at the short end of the oval ring NOT the side. And from the photos
it doesn't even look like it's soldered together, it looks like there is a gap.
Plus in my opinion everything about it looks cheap. Plus its ugly!
Put a paper bag over it and call it a day.
      Just my 2 cents.

I think run a mile, bad as they come. Do a search on here and you will find loads of examples of the 2 original types

Originals of the 8, 12, and 25 year awards had a thicker "eye" at the top of the medals. The eye is one of the most important parts for repro detection in long service SS awards. Originals including the 8 year had a thick, ridged protruding line in the center of the ring. The sides of the ring were countersunk. All originals that I have seen have this. An addition, it should always have the tear drop ring as its suspension. The eye on your 8 year is thin and has no protruding ridge.and there were no pics of the side of the ring. Probably a repro despite the tear drop ring. You will get more traction in the Tony Barto SS forum.

              Reproduction.

Plenty of threads on SS medals (including measurements) on here.

Use the "search" function to find them.

This medal is an english fake from the early 70,s.Probaly the most common reproduction of this medal there is.
Every 2nd fake i see, seems to be one of these.

Thank you so much for your help. I felt the same way, but the price was low enough that i had to make an effort.

                Sincerely,

                Jeremiah
