I know they where also used post war but i wonder if there is any chance that they could be pre 1945

From what i can see they both look period. The breast star has the correct back plate. Medal still has the majority of the silver present and the swords have detail on both sides which is nice. Some have thios detail and some just have the front detailed.

                  Thanks Greg,

                  Glad they are period!

My guess is that the breast star is post war. It certainly "looks like a period piece", but originals are insanely rare, especially as compared to almost identical post war copies, made from the origianl die.
I do not know about the medal.
You should do a search on these. These have been discussed ad infinatum here and also at SAgongs, a web site that specializes in Indian awards.
Only Souval made these and the back plate ("stempel") was seized by the British military police in a raid on his shop in 1946. Purportedly "post war" examples, some of which were sold and awarded by the Free India Committee into the 1960s, have a blank back.
However, catalogs from the 1960s also show these with the Souval back plate and we know that Souval exported and sold a good number of these as collectors copies.
The original "stempel" probably still rests within the files of HM Govt. somewhere in London.

I cant say that this is the best argument for the badge being post war but i do understand what you mean.
I have read the threads about the Azad Hind and know they seems to be extremely hard to judge pre from post war.

I do know that this one is pre 1955 but i dont know if its period.
