    Freistadt Danzig pin?

Anyone any idea what this pin is? It appears to have the Freistadt Danzig emblem but no idea what it is.......
This did belong to a former SS Oberscharführer who served with SS Heimwehr Danzig and is entitled to the Ehrennadel.

Maaybe it is just a tie pin of the town though!?!?!!?

    Cheers, Ian

Curious if it may be the coat of arms for a specific Police organization within the Free City.

Here is a cap badge of similar style:

        Hi Ian,

Looks like a Danzig City tie pin with no direct military or paramilitary link. There were many of these type of Danzig-related pins, cuff-links, tie-pins etc. around.

After the war the Bund der Danziger (an organisation of former Danzig citizens who managed to flee to Germany) also produced some Danzig crest pins in a laurel wreath (gold and silver versions). There are many different types of jewellery with the Danzig crest out there.

          Thanks joshlichty and Danziger,

As mentioned this came with a group to a former member of SS Heimwehr Danzig and is entitled to the Ehrennadel. When it it was put with the group no idea as he was killed June 1944, however it clearly has been in the back of the Soldbuch for a long time because of the indentation there.

          Cheers!

            Hi Ian,

Yes, sorry, Id didn't mean to say the pin is a post-war pin. Just that this type of Danzig City jewellery was popular before, during and after the war. Because of Danzig's special history even before and after WW I, people from Danzig (Danziger) felt particularly proud of their city and that was also expressed in jewellery and accessoires for men and women.

            Best,

            René

              No problem René,

I have no idea how old it is either....just saying it has been there a long time but whether or not it his or someone put it with the group to pad it out, don't know....however one thing is for sure...it's not new!

              Cheers,
              Ian
