    Silver Wound Badge oppinions needed

    Would like to hear your oppinions about this wound badge. I must admit I've got some doubts about it, but that's nothing certain and it has nothing that would look wrong for me. What do you think? It has one interesting feature - it gives an impression that the background is VERY slightly puszed inside - so look the swordss hilt from an angle.

    Badge looks like a fine buntmetal to me. Nice details. Catch looks ok. Never seen that needle though.

      Hello. Thank you for your oppinion. Buntmetal? You mean they were made of other materials than brass and zinc? The buntmetal ones were produced late or early in the war? I know my questions may sound ridiculous, but I'm totally green in the awards' topic

        Hi,

        Buntmetal is a better metal as compared to zinc when it comes to the production material of medals & badges. The common assumption is that zinc is widely used towards the later part of the war.

          Hi,

          This is a bit of a strange one imo. I'm not saying it's a repro but there are a couple of things that bother me without actually being able to examine it. The patina is strange - ?artificial aging? - especially the "halos" around the hinge and catch regions. The hinge and hinge end of the pin are also a little strange to me - somewhat reminiscent of some repro styles. The obverse detail looks OK though.

          Any chance of some side-on shots? Are the shear marks on the edge "crisp"?

            Hello. Well it is hard to determine for me if the cutting marks are crisp - they are certainly noteworthy. One edge of the badge has an edge standing out of the reverse surface that can be easily felt with a finger. The "patina" is also a bit strange to me - it can be scratched out with a finger... The catch however looks nice to me as it resembles the black grade ones.

              Hi Karol,

              Does there seem to a vertical line extending from the hinge like on the 'fake' 65 gold/silver WB's. Yours dosen't have the pin, catch & hinge like on those known fakes but I spotted this line on your pic ?

              Well posting the pic failed, its on pic............odz 7 you can see the line to the right of the hinge.

                You mean the benting on the pin that goes at 90 degrees? Whell, it does - like can be seen on pics... Or you mean something else?

                  On pic Karol1/odz 7/ jpeg there seem's to be a line like on the attached pic extending from the top of the hinge on the base.

                  Now over all, esp the obverse your badge seem's to be in my opinion ok, if it is a fake it is indeed very well done. I hope I'm not making mountains out of mole hill's but I just wondered from your pic (odz 7) if there was indeed a trace of a line like this fake 65 gold WB I had.

                  I tried to re enhance your pic in the 'photoshop' but I'm not very good at these things yet to make out your line, or what appears to be a line more obvious.

                  Anyway, here's what I was on about

                      Arh ! Sorry to cause you any worries then, lets not get to paranoid about the badge then, there are some concerns as stated but this badge is still out for the the jury. I like it more than I don't !

                      Any more opinion's on Karols WB ?

                        I do not know if your piece is real or fake but I can say that I have never seen that exact type of hinge/pin assembly and catch on a wound badge before.

                          The badge is looking good to me also, Karol you're 'green' collector on awards as you said but you're quite lucky for finding not so common examples

                          Almost indentical NOT indentical i have seen this type of hinge, catch, pin on C.E. Juncker WB's, on the front is looking more for a typical '65'WB! Really strange but interesting WB.

                          About the vertical line on some WBs, are not ALL them fake, are some other factors for the fake 'line' WB's. Please refer Javier's informative article on the Wound badge site.

                          I have a '30 liner' and my badge is 101% original.

                            Wasn't that line business related to the 65? Another point was a rusty pin
                            on the 65. Would you have any pictures of pin set ups like the badge Karols

                              Mine didn't have a rusty pin, so not a sure sign just a trait I guess depending on how old it is, where it's kept or how it's been 'aged'.
